Walter H. "Wally" Zitterich 1925-1989

Estherville – Services for Walter H. (Wally) Zitterich, 63, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel with the Rev. John Besore III of First Presbyterian church officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery with military rites by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91. He died Wednesday, April 26, 1989 at Holy Family Hospital.

He was born June 4, 1925 near Estherville, the son of Fred and Emma (Zerke) Zitterich, and received his education in the Estherville schools. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Intrepid during World War Two. On March 18, 1947 he was married to Dolores Lyle at Sanborn, Minn. They have lived all their married life in the Estherville area. He worked as a fireman on the Rock Island Railroad several years; then worked at Golden Sun Feeds and John Morrell and Co. until 1974. He enjoyed coin collecting and was a coin dealer operating Wally’s Coins. He enjoyed putting up a huge outdoor Christmas light display on his farm and roller skating.

He was a member of VFW Post 3388 and the Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife Dolores, rural Estherville; two sons: Kenton of Clarksville and Kevin, Estherville; two daughters: Kymm Clark, Minneapolis and Mrs. Fred (Kelli) Nichols, Guymon, Okla.; six grandchildren; one brother Francis, Sioux Falls, S.D.; three sisters: Mrs. Don (Evelyn) Muetzel, Spencer; Mrs. Eldon (Marybelle “Blondie”) Dahl, Magnolia, Ia. and Mrs. Jack (Lois) Rogers, Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and two sisters.

The family requests memorials to be given to the American Heart Association. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 29, 1989)
