Estherville – Services for Gladys Valen, 69, of rural Estherville will be held today, Monday, September 26, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Estherville with the Rev. Larry Willey officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Memorial Cemetery in Estherville. She died Thursday, September 22 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Spirit Lake.

Visitation was held Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home Funeral Home in Estherville.

She was born July 8, 1925 in Dolliver, the daughter of Walter and Lydia (Kleen) Pope. She received her education in the Dolliver schools graduating from Dolliver High School, then attended Estherville Junior college. She married Robert Valen on April 6, 1947 in Estherville.

She was employed at the Emmet county State Bank, Sammon’s Communication and later Iowa Trust and Savings Bank, all of Estherville.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of Estherville.

Survivors include her husband; two sons Dennis and Dean of rural Estherville; one daughter Roberta Scott of Bedford, Texas; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 26, 1994)
