Estherville – Funeral services for Isabell Tordoff-Watland, 101 of Estherville will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, September 20 at the Estherville Lutheran Church with Pastors Kermit Rye and Arlyn Norris officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Memorial Cemetery in Estherville. She died on Sunday, September 17 at Rosewood Manor.

Visitation was held Tuesday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

She was born on December 12, 1893 in Radcliff, the daughter of Lars and Amelia (Engelson) Halverson. She grew up in the Radcliff area and received her education in the Roland schools. At the age of 15, she moved to Des Moines to work for a family. She was united in marriage to William Tordoff, Sr. on January 18, 1912 in Roland. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Alden area for seven years. In 1919, the family moved to a farm near Armstrong. Mr. Tordoff died in 1943. She moved to Fairmont, Minn. and returned to Armstrong in 1945 and purchased the skating rink.

On June 1, 1947, she was united in marriage to Ollie Watland in Armstrong. After their marriage, the couple operated the skating rink until 1953. In 1958, they moved to Estherville and Mr. Watland died in 1960. She became a resident at Rosewood Manor in 1991.

She was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church and ELCW.

She is survived by two sons, Luverne Tordoff of Portsmith, Va.; Bill Tordoff, Jr. of Sarasota, Fla.; one daughter, Beverly Randol of Norwalk; 17 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; 23 great great grandchildren; one brother, Levi Halverson of Mountain Home, Ark.; and one sister, Sylvia Sampson of Estherville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, two sons, two daughters, one sister and five brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 20, 1995)
