Estherville – Services for Melvin Anton Rasmussen, 69, will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Pastor Kermit Rye of the Estherville Lutheran church officiating. Interment will be in East Side Memorial Cemetery and military service by the VFW and American Legion Posts of Estherville. He died Thursday, Feb. 14, 1991 at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake.

He was born June 1, 1921 near Emmetsburg, the son of Sophus and Anna (Jensen) Rasmussen and attended Graettinger School. He later served in the United States Army during World War Two where he was stationed in Japan for 18 months. During the Korean Conflict he served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He did farm work for area farmers many years and was active in maintaining East side Cemetery a number of years. He never married.

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Marvin (Lavida) Hildreth, Estherville; nephews: Randy Hildreth, Estherville and Larry Hildreth, Waverly; niece, Lori Lane of Union and five great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 16, 1991)
