Estherville – Services for Jabez Lewis Mitchell, 79, Estherville, will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Balm officiating. Interment will be in East Side Memorial Cemetery. He died Wednesday, May 2, 1990 at Holy Family Hospital.

Friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville from 4-9 p.m. Thursday.

He was born May 31, 1910 at Emerson, the son of Jabez and Sarah (Castner) Mitchell and attended Malvern High School. On Nov. 29, 1939 he was united in marriage with Elouise Jane Williamson at Crookston, Minn. The couple farmed in Mills County until 1950 when they moved to Fairmont, Minn. and he worked for Ferguson Tire Co. They moved to Estherville in 1952 where he was employed with Tobin packing Co. In 1975 he retired from John Morrell & Co.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, taught Sunday School, served on the Malvern school board, was secretary of the United Food & Commercial Workers Local 70 and president of Local 79 retirees.

He is survived by his wife Elouise; two daughters: Mrs. Darwin (Sherrel) Coleman, Salem, Ore.; Donna Mitchell, Sioux City; one son Loren, Estherville; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and Chosen Children: Gary and Jan Russell, Harlan and Don and Margaret Lundgren, Pierre, S.D.; and one brother Eldon Mitchell, Springfield, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 3, 1990)
