John Koenecke
Estherville – Services for John D. Koenecke, 65, of Estherville will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Glenn S. Bohmer presiding. Interment will be in the East Side Memorial Cemetery in Estherville.

Friends may call at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 23.

He was born on October 22, 1926 in Lake Fremont, Minn., the son of Frank and Elizabeth (Chworowsky) Koenecke and was educated in the Emmet Consolidated School graduating in 1943. He married Naomi M. Luthro on June 2, 1962 in Stillwater, Minn. After graduating from high school, he enlisted and served in the Army Air Force during WW II. After his father’s death, he lived on a farm near Dunnell, caring for his mother and younger brothers and sisters. In 1955 he and his mother moved to Estherville and continued to live there following his marriage. He was employed by Golden Sun Feeds from 1955 until retirement in 1989. He was custodian for the United Methodist Church. He was an Emmet County Weed Commissioner for two years and a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was also a member of Estherville V.F.W. Post No. 3388 and a member of the Christiansen-Bonnicksen American Legion Post in Ringsted.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters: Kim Koenecke, Rochester, Minn.; and Julie Koenecke, Denver, Col.; three brothers: Richard Koenecke, Dallas, Texas; Dean Koenecke, Alexandria, Minn.; and Frank Koenecke, Omaha, Neb.; and six sisters: Mrs. Maxine Bargfrede, Jackson, Minn.; Mrs. Ruth Sand, New Ulm, Minn.; Mrs. Joan Bjerknes, Alexandria, Minn.; Mrs. Jean Anderson, Estherville; and Mrs. Kay Mootz, Alexandria, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two infant brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 22, 1992)
