Estherville – Funeral services for Mary Jo Jensen, 86, of Estherville will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 17 at the Estherville Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Ray Miller officiating. Interment will be at East Side Memorial Cemetery. She died Thursday, Feb. 12 at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

Mary Jo Carter, the daughter of Cleve an Antoinette (Mikes) Carter was born on Nov. 25, 1916 in West Bend.

She received her education in the West Bend and Graettinger, Iowa schools, graduating from Graettinger High School. After graduation, she was employed as a switchboard operator for the Graettinger Telephone Company and later as a bookkeeper for Spies Land Offices of Graettinger.

On March 1, 1942, she was united in marriage to Einer Jensen in Graettinger. The couple lived and farmed in the area until 1973, when they moved to Estherville. Mary Jo worked for Holy Family Hospital for 15 years as a switchboard operator and as a receptionist for Northwest Iowa Mental Health for 14 years. She retired in 1992.

She was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church and Estherville Lutheran Women.

Due to failing health, she had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center since September of 2002.

She is survived by her husband, Einer of Estherville; two children, Darryl Jensen and his wife, Mary of Milford; Carol Kimmet and her husband, Tom of Estherville; five grandchildren, Corey Kimmet of Estherville; Matt Jensen and his wife, Amy of St. Cloud, Minn.; Michael Jensen and his wife, Amanda of Milford; Eric Jensen of Milford; Lori Knapp of Spirit Lake; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Walstrom of Verdigre, Neb.; brother, Robert Carter of Graettinger and two nieces and two nephews.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law, Alyce Carter, and brother-in-law, Dr. Veryl Walstrom. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 14, 2003)
