Estherville – Services for Ida E. [Elizabeth] Carlson, 70, of Estherville will be held Sunday, April 2, at 1:30 p.m. Grace Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake with Father Tom Nash officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Memorial Cemetery in Estherville. She died Thursday, March 30 at Cavanaugh Home in Des Moines.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
She was born January 15, 1925 in Sibley, the daughter of Peter F.L. and Trientje M. Timmerman. She attended a rural school in Viola Township near Sibley and received her GED in Council Bluffs in 1971 and an LPN degree from Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs in 1973. She married Don F. Carlson on April 6, 1947 in Sibley. The family lived in Manly, Sibley, Sioux Falls, Elkton, Lester, Lake Park, Estherville, Council Bluffs, Omaha and Worthington before moving back to Estherville in 1983.
She wrote and was host of a radio program called Christian Women Speak on KICD Radio in Spencer for several years. For the past two years, she served as cancer chairwoman of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 3388 and also as a chaplain for the Post. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake.
Survivors include one son, James Don Carlson of Spring Valley, Minn.; two daughters, JoAnn E. Webb of Bellevue, Neb.; Patricia Jensen of Des Moines; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers, John Timmerman of Sibley; Albert Timmerman of Sibley; three sisters May Feenstra of Sibley; Marie Duis of Sibley, and Mrs. Henry (Emma) Redinius of Ashton.
She was preceded in death by her husband on January 30, 1995, her parents, three brothers and four sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 1, 1995)
