Estherville – Funeral services for Ernest Joseph Benes, 67, of Estherville will be held Sunday, December 31 at 3 p.m. at Presbyterian Church, Estherville, with the Rev. John Besore, III officiating.

Burial will be at the East Side Memorial, Estherville. Visitation will be held at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home of Estherville on Saturday after 4 p.m. He died Friday, December 29 at Holy Family Hospital.

Ernest Joseph Benes was born October 15, 1922 in Jackson, Minn. the son of Vincent Ben and Julia (Woodraska) Benes. He went to school in Jackson.

He was employed by the Kaiser Shipyard in San Francisco, Calif. during World War 2. Following his marriage to Lilamae Graves on December 9, 1944 in Jackson, the couple lived in Jackson, where he was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad. The couple moved to Estherville in 1955 where he was employed by Tobin Packing and later retired from John Morrell and Co. after 36 years. He was a member of Western Fraternal Czech Lodge and the Morrell Retirees.

He is survived by his wife, Lilamae (Babe) and three daughters, Mrs. Darryll (Grace) Spoo of Estherville; Mrs. Michael (Linda) Montgomery of Arizona City, Ariz.; and Mrs. Dallas (Colleen) Enns of Storm Lake.

He is also survived by one brother, Benard Benes, two sisters, Mrs. John (Mayme) Clark and Mrs. Virgil (Sylvia) Storm, all of Jackson, Minn., seven grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, parents and three sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 30, 1989)
