ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Wilma Berven, 84, of Estherville will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at Estherville Lutheran Chuch with Pastor Christine Lang officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11 at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at East Side Memorial Cemetery in Estherville.

She died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at Avera Holy Family Health in Estherville.

Wilma Kay (Bremser) Berven, the daughter of Heinrich and Martha (Jung) Bremser, was born Dec. 14, 1926, in Bad Sooden-Allendorf, Germany.

She received her education in Bad Sooden-Allendorf. She was a volunteer in the German Red Cross during the latter years of World War II.

She married William E. Berven on May 15, 1954, while Bill was stationed in Germany serving in the U.S. Army. She came to the United States in 1954 and received her U.S. Citizenship in 1961. She worked a number of years at Holy Family Hospital as a practical nurse and also did some private nursing. She was employed by the Estherville Daily News for 13 years, working in the mail room prior to her retirement in 1991. Bill died March 28, 2008.

She was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church and was a member of the Esther Circle. She was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3388 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed cross-stitch, knitting, growing flowers, traveling and especially being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish Wilma's memories are her daughter, Monica Gillman, and her husband, Michael, and their children, Michael Lee and friend, Amanda, and their daughters, Hunter and Lizah and Jonathon Lee of Rapid City, S.D. and Mark Gillman and his son, Kolton, of Chariton; daughter, Betty Danner, and her husband, Fred, and their children, Cory and his wife, Melissa, and their children, Alivia, Josie, Kyle and Carly; Nicholas and his wife, Emily, and their children Cole and Noah; Tara Hill and her husband, Andrew, and their daughters, Kaitlyn and Alyssa, and Lori and her special friend, Josh McClain, all of Estherville; and son, Robert Berven, and his wife, Deborah, of Spencer and their children, Rochelle Gilmore and her husband, John, and sons, Ethan and Cayden, of Sioux Rapids; and Rebecca Berven, fiance, Nick Patrick, of Rembrandt and Angela Reed, her husband, Quintin, and children, Jerrod, Brianna, Brittany, Savanah and Brian of Minneapolis; two sisters and one brother-in-law, all living in Germany, and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
