Oscar Herman Behrends the son of Sebo and Sylvia (McGloghlin) Behrends was born January 4, 1923 in Ringsted, Iowa. He died Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at his home in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 84.

Oscar received his education in Ringsted schools. He served in the United States Air Force from 1946 to 1949.

On December 2, 1951 Oscar was united in marriage to Marceline Jacobsen in Ringsted. Following their marriage, the couple made their home northeast of Estherville where Oscar farmed until 1984. In 1988, the couple moved into Estherville.

Oscar was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, American Legion and Farm Bureau. He also was a Cub Scout treasurer, and a 4-H leader.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marceline of Estherville; sons, Lawrence Behrends and his wife, Fran of Mesa, Arizona; Paul Behrends and his wife, Marlene of Champaign, Illinois; Mark Behrends and his wife, Barbara of Fairmont, Minnesota; Jay Behrends and his daughter, Brittney of Estherville; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sisters, Helen Sebolt; Daisy Harr; Melvina Hansen; Myrna Behrends and Edna Loveless; one brother, Robert Behrends and many nieces and nephews.

He has been preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Esther Gappa; Betty Strenge; Dorothy Steinberg; Lola Bettine and three brothers, Harvey; Clyde and Roger.

Oscar left behind many who cherished and loved him. It would be his blessing to have his friends and family to attend in his memory of life. (MC)
