An Early Resident of Emmet County Dies in Oregon
Robert T. Lawton, who settled in Emmet County, in 1862, and was prominent in the affairs of the county up to the time he moved to Oregon died at his home in Medford, Oregon, Thursday February 28th, at 5:10 o’clock. Age eight-six years nine months and twenty five days.Robert T. Lawton was a native of Verona, Oneida County, N.Y. When he came to Emmet county in 1862, he was in the prime of manhood. He owned the farm for years near Emmet Grove, now owned by John R. Horswell where his two sons Denison and Wesley, and his daughter Helen grew to manhood and womanhood. At the time a number of the Emmet County people got the Oregon fever he removed to Oregon. We believe it was in the seventies. He was a progressive honest and industrious citizen.
