Estherville – Funeral services for Evalyn A. [Alma] Wells, 85, of Estherville will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4 at the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville with the Reverend Mark Gabbard officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Cemetery in Estherville. She died on Monday, Oct. 1, 2001 at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

Evalyn was born on Jan. 4, 1916 in Rockwell City, the daughter of Herman and Maria (Tapps) Wilhelms. She moved with her family to South Dakota as a young girl.

On Nov. 30, 1934 she was united in marriage to Alfred J. Wells in Sioux Falls, S.D. The couple moved to Iowa after their marriage and farmed a number of years in the Estherville and Wallingford area. In 1961, they moved into Estherville.

Evalyn worked at the Estherville Laundry for a short time before going to work at Holy Family Hospital where she worked in the laundry department for 15 years until her retirement. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville where she served on the funeral committee for many years and was a member of the Major Agers.

Evalyn is survived by two sons, Elmer Wells and his wife, Betty of Estherville and Donald Wells and his wife, Diana of Britt; one daughter, Betty Rosburg and her husband, Richard of Estherville; nine grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and one sister, Martha Juhl of Estherville.

She was preceded in death by her husband who died in 1970 and parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 3, 2001)
