Estherville – Funeral services for Edna Marie West, 83 of Estherville were held at 10 a.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Estherville with the Rev. Lynn A. Potter officiating. Interment was held at East Side Cemetery in Estherville. She died on Friday, Dec. 28, 2001 at Rosewood Manor in Estherville.Visitation was held from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday at Henry-Olson-Furhman Funeral Home in Estherville.
Edna was born on March 11, 1918 in Dolliver, the daughter of Elva and Maude (Curry) Baker. She received her education in the Armstrong schools and graduated from Armstrong High School. She also attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City following her graduation from high school.
On Jan. 18, 1946 she was united in marriage to Kenneth E. West in Spencer. After their marriage the couple made their home east of Estherville where Kenneth was engaged in farming and Edna was a mother and homemaker. The couple retired in 1978. Kenneth died October 20, 2000. Edna enjoyed playing bridge, reading and doing crossword puzzles.
Edna was a member of the United Methodist Church in Estherville where she had been very active in church activities and functions.
Edna is survived by three sons, Dr. Richard L. West and his fiancée, Jan Garvey of Crosby, Minn., Douglas K. West and his wife, Sharon of Williamston, N.C. and Donald M. West of Estherville; four grandchildren, Lindsey West, Ryan West, Christopher West and his wife, Courtney, Kelly Knox and her husband, Cory; great-granddaughter, Allison West and three nieces, Elizabeth Martyr and her husband, Steve, Roxanne Merrick and her husband, Dr. Jim and Sheila Hatch and her husband, Paul.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two sisters, Bertha Mitchell and Florence Smith. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 31, 2001)
