Estherville – Services for Betty Cecelia Wellnitz, 66, will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Richard Berger officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery. She died Thursday, Nov. 9, 1989 at Holy Family Hospital.

Friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

She was born Feb. 5, 1923 at Estherville, the daughter of Ben and Clara (Hanson) Sampson and attended Estherville and Jackson, Minn. schools. She was a 1941 graduate of Jackson High School. On October 25, 1945 she was united in marriage with Willie C. Wellnitz at Petersburg. She lived most of her life in the Estherville and Petersburg areas. Following marriage the couple farmed in Twelve Mile Lake Township before moving to Estherville. She was employed with the Emmet County A.S.C.S. office for 20 years, retiring in July, 1976. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband Bill, Estherville; one son Dennis, Gilbert, Ariz.; three daughters: Mrs. Arnold (Judy) Laidig, Jr., Alexandria, Va.; Mrs. Daryl (Nancy) Nelson, Adel; Susan Olson, Loveland, Colo.; nine grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Robert (Mildred) Fox, Sr., Estherville; two brothers, Marion Sampson, Trimont, Minn. and Ernest (LeRoy) Sampson, Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 10, 1989)
