Estherville – Lamar W. [Wright] Townsend, 94, Estherville, died Friday, April 3, 1987 at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Henry-Olson-Furhman Funeral Chapel in Estherville, with the Rev. Richard Mavis of Union Baptist Church in Estherville officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery. Military rites will be by the Estherville American Legion and VFW posts.
Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. Monday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
He was born Oct. 19, 1892 in Winona, Miss., to Mr. and Mrs. James Townsend. He received his education in Winona, Miss. He married Mabel Fisher on Aug. 5, 1923 in Winona, Miss. He lived most of his life in Helena, Ark. He was employed by a hardware store and then was a manager of a clothing store until his retirement. The couple moved to the Good Samaritan Apartments in Estherville in June 1981. He was a member of Union Baptist Church, a life member of the Helena, Ark., American Legion Post and a World War I veteran.
He is survived by a daughter, Dorothy (Mrs. Ralph) Miller, Jackson, Minn.; a granddaughter, Janice (Mrs. Steve) Richards, Algona; a brother, Don Townsend, Atlanta, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on Oct. 28, 1966 and 3 brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 6, 1987)
