Estherville – Masonic services for Vermaine H. (Ole) Sidles will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Masonic Temple with the public invited and services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Estherville, with the Rev. Max Goldman officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery.

Mr. Sidles, 71, died at his home Monday [August 1, 1978].

Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home until 7 o’clock tonight and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry W. Sidles, he was born Oct. 31, 1906, at Estherville. Mr. Sidles graduated from Estherville High School in 1927 and from Estherville Junior College in 1929. He was married to Harriett Blazer on Jan. 1, 1931, at Estherville.

A resident of Estherville his entire life, Mr. Sidles worked with his father in the painting and interior decorating business, was Estherville city clerk from 1943 to 1945, owned a flower shop until 1950 and was a IDS Representative until his retirement in 1970.

Mr. Sidles was a member of the Masonic Temple, where he was past master of the Blue Lodge 447, past high priest of Jepta Chapter 128, past commander of Esdraelon Commandery 52, past grand junior deacon of Grand Lodge of Iowa, member of ABU-Bekr Temple of Sioux City, past worthy patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, past watchman of the shepards of the White Shrine of Jerusalem and a member of Temple Council 37 at Spencer.

He was also past commander and past county commander of the American Legion, past lt. governor of the Kiwanis, past president of the Estherville Chamber of Commerce, grand cross of color of the International Association of Rainbow for girls and a member of the United Methodist Church.

Mr. Sidles is survived by his wife, Harriett, one brother, Lester Sidles, Estherville; and four nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 3, 1978)
