Estherville – Services for Evelyn Shriner, 78, will be held Tuesday, March 21 at 1 p.m. at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville with Reverend Larry Willey officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Cemetery in Estherville. She died Friday, March 17 at her home in Estherville.Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, March 20 and 9 a.m. to 12 noon Tuesday, March 21 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home.
She was born August 18, 1916 [per ss death index, July 18] in Gruver the daughter of Harvey A. and Irene (Wickens) Solmonson graduating from Gruver High School in 1934. Following high school, she moved to Des Moines and was employed in the Des Moines area for several years. She was united in marriage to Marqus A. Shriner on November 17, 1938 in Lancaster, Mo. She was an army wife and homemaker for the next 24 years, traveling to and living in 48 states and Europe on military posts. Lt. Col. Shriner retired after 30 years active service in 1962 and they returned to Estherville that same year. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
She is survived by one son, Lt. Col. Robert M. Shriner U.S. Army, Ret.; our grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and four brothers, Francis E. Solmonson, Wayne P. Solmonson, Ernest L. Solmonson and Donald L. Solmonson, all of Estherville.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979, a daughter, her parents and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 20, 1995)
