Aged Resident of Estherville Dies Near Emmetsburg
Emmetsburg – Mrs. William Schroeder, 65, of Estherville, died near Emmetsburg Monday while visiting a daughter, Mrs. H.M. Broadman.

Funeral services will be held at Estherville in the Lutheran church Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock with the Rev. W.L. Wagner of Emmetsburg and the Rev. O. Long of Estherville officiating. Burial will be at Estherville in charge of the Foy Funeral home of Emmetsburg. (Mason City Globe Gazette, Mason City, March 26, 1940)

Mrs. William Schroeder, 65, passed away Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H.N. Boardman of Cylinder. She had suffered with cancer of the stomach since October, 1939. Funeral services were held this (Thursday) afternoon at the Boardman home and at the Immanuel Lutheran church at Estherville followed by burial at Estherville. Mrs. Wm. Schroeder, 63, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H.M. Boardman, near Cylinder, early Monday morning. She had been ailing in health since October and had been bedfast since January. Funeral services were held at one o’clock at the Boardman home and at 2 o’clock at the Immanuel Lutheran church at Estherville. Rev. W.E. Wagner, pastor of the St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran church of Emmetsburg, assisted by Rev. Lang of Estherville, officiated. Interment was in the Lutheran [East Side] cemetery at Estherville. The Foy Funeral Home of Emmetsburg was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Martha Bolte was born on April 1, 1874, at Hamburg, Germany. About twenty years ago she was united in marriage to William Schroeder at Estherville. Mr. and Mrs. Schroeder farmed near Estherville for fifteen years. During the past five years they have made their home in the town of Estherville until recently when Mrs. Schroeder became ill and she was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Boardman, where she has since made her home.

She is survived by her widower and the following sons and daughters:

Mrs. Freda Hoff, St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. Lena Hope, St. Louis; Mrs. H.M. Boardman, Cylinder; Mrs. Frank Heyda, Minneapolis; Henry of Mallard; Mrs. Elsie Watters of Sully and Ernest of State Center. A daughter, Martha, preceded her mother in death. (Emmetsburg Democrat, Emmetsburg, IA, March 29, 1940)
