Leona Sampson
Estherville – Funeral services for Leona B. Sampson, 79, of Estherville were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Glenn S. Bohmer officiating. Interment was held at East Side Cemetery in Estherville. She died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001 at Westminister Village in Ponca City, Okla.

Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. today at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

Leona was born on March 24, 1922 in Estherville, the daughter of William Peter and Birdie Tomina (Orstad) Best. She received her education in the Estherville schools, graduating in 1940.

On May 16, 1941, she was united in marriage to Orville Sampson in Fairmont, Minn. She lived in various communities including Raleigh, Terril and Estherville and also Hastings, Minn.

Leona was employed at Young Studio, F.W. Woolworth, Montgomery Ward, Estherville Skyline Club and Golden Sun Feeds all in Estherville. Leona and Orville also ran their own business, Orv and Leona’s Clip Joint in Estherville.

She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville.

Leona is survived by her husband, Orville Sampson of Estherville; three daughters, Norma Vanman and her husband, Robert Daniels of Ponca City, Okla., Sandi Mullins and her husband, Roger of Union, Ky, and Jodi Melo of Cincinnati, Ohio; one son, Gregg Sampson and his wife, Andrea of Poulsbro, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Irene Butterfield and her husband, Fred of Estherville, Wilma Nelson and her husband, Norman of Estherville, Sylvia Sampson of Estherille and Viola Sampson of Emmetsburg and special friend, Molly Bea.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.

In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted for a garden memorial in her name at Westminister Village, 1601 Acadamy Road, Ponca City, Okla., 74604. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 17, 2001)
