Estherville – Funeral services for Adrian “Abe” [Harold] Runge, 73, of Estherville will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Sat. July 28, 1997 at the United Methodist Church in Estherville with the Rev. Larry Willey officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Cemetery, Estherville. He died on Wednesday, June 25 at Holy Family Health Services, Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

He was born on July 29, 1923 in Winside, Neb., the son of Fredric and Hannah (Schultz) Runge. He received his education in the Pilger, Neb. schools. On December 5, 1942, he was united in marriage to Iris A.J. Gangestad in South Sioux City, Neb. After the marriage, the couple lived in Ringsted where he was employed by area farmers. In 1945, the couple moved to Estherville and he was employed driving a truck. They later moved to Jackson, Minn. where he was a mechanic at an auto dealership. They then moved to Swea City and he owned and operated a filling station. The couple moved back to Estherville in 1951 and he has been employed in various jobs including a shop foreman at a Ford dealership, maintenance worker at Holy Family Hospital and Forest Ridge, a hair-dresser, an insurance agent and mechanic.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Estherville, VFW Post 3388 and honorary member of the Elks Lodge where he was past Exalted Ruler.

He is survived by his wife, Iris Runge of Estherville, son, Donald A. Runge of Sherburn; daughter, Patricia Vandenburg of St. Peter, Minn.; sisters, Mrs. Ted (Irene) Montgomery of Enumclaw, Wash.; Hilda Maas of Ringsted; Mrs. Ervin (Edna) Helmers of Mojave, Calif.; Bonnie Wandlaw [?] of Pahrum, Neb.; brothers: Herman Runge of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and Raymond Runge of Enumclaw, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents and twin brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 27, 1997)
