Funeral services for Blanche Nurrella Ruby, 78, of Spirit Lake were held Thursday, Dec. 2, 1982, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. Rev. James Quitno officiated the service.Vocalist was James Doyle with the hymns “Beyond the Sunset,” “Amazing Grace” and “Rock of Ages,” sung by the congregation. Organist was Mrs. Merrie Kaye Shaffer.
Pallbearers were Robert Rude, Jr., Paul Millman, Richard Sidles, Ronald Graettinger, James DeVore and James Fransdal.
Interment was in East Side Cemetery in Estherville.
Blanche Nurrella Ruby was born to Nels and Matha [Martha] (Olson) Stokkeboe at Rake, Ia., on Sept. 26, 1904. On Dec. 19, 1922, she was united in marriage to Merle E. Ruby at Albert Lea, Minn., and to this union four children were born.
Following her marriage to Merle, they had resided in Estherville, Ida Grove, Fort Dodge and Spirit Lake. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. On Nov. 29, 1982, she passed away at her home in Spirit Lake.
Survivors include her husband, Merle; son, Russell Ruby of Estherville; daughters, Betty Millman of Denver, Colo., Doris Malmberg of Washington, D.C., Martha Rude of White Bear Lake, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sisters, Hannah Fransdal, Tillie Riskedahl and Clara Leithe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three half sisters and two brothers.
The Donovan-Leyson Funeral Home of Spirit Lake was in charge of arrangements. (Milford Mail and Terril Record, Milford, IA, December 2, 1982)
