Merle Ruby
Funeral services for Merle Emmet Ruby, 83, of Spirit Lake, were held Saturday Feb. 1, 1986, 1:30 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church, in Spirit Lake, with Rev. James Quitno officiating. Mr. Ruby died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1986 at his home in Spirit Lake.Merrie Kaye Shaffer, organist, accompanied James Doyle, soloist, as he sang “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and as the congregation sang “Beautiful Savior.” Pallbearers were Dale King, Harold Ford, Jim Fransdal, Arnold Hawk, Peder Loe and Richard Sidles. Interment was in the East Side Cemetery in Estherville.
Merle Emmet Ruby was born to Charles Ruby and Jennie Markham Ruby at Estherville on April 23, 1902. He attended school at Estherville and Huntington.
On Dec. 19, 1922 he married Blanche Norella Stokkeboe at Albert Lea, Minn. Four children were born to this union.
Mr. Ruby was employed by Tobin Packing Plant, in Estherville, and the Hormel Packing Company in Fort Dodge. He farmed in Ida County and painted with Harry Sidles and Sons. Mr. Ruby retired in 1967 and moved to Spirit Lake in 1970.
Survivors include his children: Russell N. Ruby of Estherville, Mrs. Dean (Betty) Millman of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Philip (Doris) Malmberg of Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Robert (Martha) Rude of White Bear Lake, Minn.; 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers and two sisters. (Spirit Lake Beacon, Spirit Lake, IA, February 6, 1986)
