Estherville – Services for Weston B. [Burdette] Rogers, 82, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home with the Rev. David Wendell of the United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery with full military graveside rites by the VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91. He died Wednesday, October 3, 1990 at his home.

He was born October 28, 1907 [per Iowa State Birth Record Index, 1908] at Estherville, the son of George and Odelia (Sillge) Rogers and was a graduate of Estherville High School. While attending High School, he captured the Iowa State Typing contest with 69 words per minute. Following school, he served as an apprentice in a local upholstery, harness, awning and canvas repair shop. In 1942 he entered armed services and served 35 months in the Army Air Corp in WWII. He returned to Estherville after the war and purchased the repair shop where he had apprenticed, making him the third generation of the Sillge family in the harness repair business. He was in business a total of 60 years, the last 28 he operated Roger’s Repair shop. He retired in 1986.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge, and the Maurice Doyle American Legion Post No. 91.

Survivors include a niece, Mrs. Ronald (Janice) Dickinson, Fairmont, Minn.; a nephew, Gerald Noble, Cedar Rapids; three great nephews, one great niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Irene Noble. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 6, 1990)
