ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Jack E. Rogers, 84, of Estherville will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Glenn Bohmer officiating. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery in Estherville.
He died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at Avera Holy Family Health in Estherville.
Jack Elwayne Rogers, the son of Homer and Onna (Hanson) Rogers, was born May 18, 1925, in Estherville.
He received his education in the Estherville schools. Jack served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II serving in the South Pacific at Iwo Jima. After his honorable discharge from military service he returned to Estherville.
On Feb. 26, 1949, Jack was united in marriage to Lois Irene Zitterich in Jackson, Minn. The couple made their home in Estherville where they raised their family. Jack farmed for eight years and was employed at John Morrell and Company for over 26 years. He also did maintenance work at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Jack took great joy in spending time with family and friends. In his leisure time Jack enjoyed woodworking and loved old antique tractors and always enjoyed going to various threshing bees each year. Lois died Jan. 2, 2003.
Jack was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and also a lifetime member of VFW Post 3388 of Estherville.
Left to cherish Jack's memory are two daughters, Karen J. Rogers of Estherville and Yvonne D. Schmidt and her husband, Kevin, of Jackson, Minn.; three grandchildren, Natasha, Tyler and Jake; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Jack in death were his wife; parents and two brothers, Earl Dean Rogers and Harold Curtis Rogers. (MC)
