Graettinger – Memorial services for Wayne Potter, 75, Graettinger will be held Friday, April 2, at 1:30 p.m. in the Methodist Church with the Rev. George Brighton, officiating. He died March 7th at his winter home in Apache Junction, Ariz. Interment will be in the East Side Cemetery at Estherville.

He was born Oct. 11, 1906 at Grand Junction Ia., the son of Leon and Gertrude Potter. He attended schools at Grand Junction and Jefferson and graduated from the Jefferson School. On June 5, 1928 he married Helen Reed at Grand Junction and they lived there until 1932 when they moved to Graettinger. She died in Sept., 962. On May 3, 1965 Potter married Mildred Fox Sampson and they continued to live in Graettinger where he had a bakery and restaurant and later a small fix-it shop until retiring. He served as mayor most of two terms.

Survivors include his wife Mildred; two sons, Reed of Spirit Lake and Don of Mason City; one daughter, Luella Campbell, Loveland, Colo.; one stepson, Bob Sampson, Graettinger; one stepdaughter Shirley Stewart, Omaha; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters: Ida Smith, Des Moines, Zeta Ladd, Paton, Ia., Gladys Teagarden, Boone, Gean Rogers, Grand Junction and one brother Paul, Kansas City, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; one grandson; parents and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 31, 1982)
