Estherville – Funeral services for Velma Omundson, 85, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Sat., Nov. 7, 1998, at Estherville Lutheran Church with Pastor Arlyn Norris and Pastor Jane Johnston officiating. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery, Estherville. She died Wed. Nov. 4, at Rosewood Manor in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

She was born June 2, 1913, in Deland, Ill., the daughter of William B. and Abbie (Walker) Perkins. She began her education in the grade schools at Deland and completed her education in the Monticello, Ill. schools. She moved to Estherville in the late 1920s.

On Nov. 8, 1936, she was united in marriage to James M. Omundson at Spencer. After their marriage, the couple lived on a farm near Graettinger. The family moved to Estherville in 1940. Velma was a homemaker all her life. Due to heart problems, she has been a resident of Rosewood Manor Care Center since May of 1998.

She was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church, E.L.C.W., the Deborah Circle and the VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, James of Estherville; sons: Ronald of Casa Grande, Ariz.; John of Pearce, Ariz.; Richard of Dona, Ind.; David on Munteno, Ill.; James, Jr. of Bondurant; daughters: Mrs. Pat (Sharon) Sobkoweak of Emmetsburg; Evelyn Bradshaw of Springfield, Ill.; Mrs. David (Peggy) Oelkers of Dodge, Neb.; Susan Wheeler of Estherville; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters: Dorothy Johnson of Estherville and Mrs. Gilbert (Hazel) Walthen of Forest Lake, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 6, 1998)
