ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Thelma E. Moffitt, 94, of Estherville will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at United Methodist Church in Estherville with Pastor Lynn Elrod officiating. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery in Estherville.
She died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at her home in Estherville.
Thelma Evelyn (Heidinger) Moffitt, the daughter of Charles and Lula (Teesdale) Heidinger, was born Oct. 16, 1917, in Stickney, S.D.
She attended school in Stickney and graduated from Stickney High School.
She was united in marriage to LeRoy Oddson in 1939 and the couple farmed in the Graettinger area for 11 years. On Dec. 10, 1950, Thelma was united in marriage to Francis Oliver Moffitt. The couple made their home in Estherville and throughout the years Thelma was employed at Sperry Univac in Jackson, Minn. and also Estherville Foods in Estherville. Thelma was very active in the RSVP (Retired Volunteer Senior Program) where she was active for 10 years and devoted countless hours volunteering her time until her retirement. Thelma's life was devoted to caring for others and their needs. If anyone needed something, Thelma was there to lend a helping hand in whatever needed to be done. Thelma's family was her life and she devoted her attention to her family and meeting their needs. One of the greatest highlights in Thelma's life was obtaining her passport and making a trip overseas to visit her son Craig and his family while he was serving in the military. She also enjoyed having cats around her home and nurturing them. Francis died Jan. 12, 1974.
Left to cherish Thelma's memory are her son, Craig Moffitt, and his wife, Ellen, of Spirit Lake; step-daughters, Sylvia Bartlett of North Anson, Maine and Terri Dyer of Madison, Maine; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding Thelma in death were her husband, Francis; a stillborn infant daughter, Sheryl Jean Moffitt; son, Gary; her parents; brother, Gordon and sister, Hazel. (MC)
