Estherville – Services for Dorothy C. Gustafson, 94, will be held Thursday, July 2 at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mark Gabbard and the Rev. Ronald C. Gustafson officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery, Estherville. She died Monday, June 29, 1998, at Good Samaritan Center, Estherville.Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
She was born Aug. 7, 1903, at Estherville, the daughter of Eric and Caroline (Hansen) Juhl. She attended Estherville schools graduating from high school. She attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake and taught in the Blom school, a one-room school in rural Emmet County and later taught at Emmet Consolidated School.
On June 30, 1925, she married Clark Gustafson at Estherville. They farmed in the Estherville area until 1939 when they moved to Ormsby, Minn. where they farmed eight years and in 1948 moved back to the Estherville area and farmed south of Huntington until retirement in 1972. They continued to live on the farm until moving into Estherville in 1978.
She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and UPW for 81 years. She was also a member of the Triple E Club.
Survivors include a son, the Rev. Ronald Gustafson, LaCrosse, Wis., son-in-law Harvey Mathias, St. James, Minn.; grandsons: Clark and Bradley Gustafson and Kurtis Mathias; granddaughters: Gaye Marie Johnson, Constance Johnsrud, Diane Mathias; nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who died July 21, 1984; parents; two daughters and two brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 30, 1998)
