Estherville – Services for Mrs. Walter (Bessie [Freda]) McGuinn, 96, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel with Pastor Virgil Anderson, Chaplain of the Good Samaritan Center Chapel, officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery. She died Monday, June 15, 1987 at the Good Samaritan Center.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 3-9 p.m. Tuesday.

She was born Nov. 19, 1888 at Peabody, Kans., the daughter of James and Zillah (Porter) Cole. She attended Kansas schools. On May 1, 1905 she was united in marriage with Walter J. McGuinn at Coldwater, Kans. The family moved to the Ringsted area in 1906 where they farmed. He was associated with Standard Oil of Indiana for 20 years. The couple operated the Gruver Corner from 1946-48 then moved into Estherville. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church; Gold Star Mothers and Royal Neighbors.

She is survived by two sons: Paul McGuinn, Houston, Tex. and Merlin McGuinn, Santa Ana, Calif.; one daughter Mrs. Wilma Paulson, Sioux Falls, S.D.; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband June 13, 1952; five sons; two daughters; several brothers and sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 15, 1987)
