Estherville – Services for Edwin L. [Leslie] McKean, 95, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. John Besore III officiating. Interment will be in East SideCemetery with military service by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91. He died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 1990 at Craft Care Center, Panora.Friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home from 4-9 p.m. Thursday.
He was born Nov. 6, 1894 near Maple Hill, the son of James and Hester (Shaw) McKean and attended country school near Maple Hill. He also attended Highland Park Business College. He served in the United States Army in World War One. On Feb. 25, 1920 he married Mary Burkholder at Estherville. The couple farmed in Emmet, Palo Alto and Kossuth Counties until 1950 when they moved to New London, Minn. They returned to Estherville in 1952 and he did construction work until retiring in 1960. His wife died in 1959. On July 10, 1972 he married Arleva (Triplet) Shull at Windom, Minn. He was living in a nursing home in Panora at the time of his death.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post 91, WWI Barracks, and Estherville Senior Citizens.
Survivors include his wife, Arleva, Estherville, a son Lloyd McKean, Wallingford, two daughters, Mrs. Verna Sigler, Jefferson and Viginia McKean, New London, Minn., 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, a son, two grandchildren, five brothers and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 1, 1990)
