McAdams Funeral to Be Friday at Estherville
Dows – Funeral services for Clyde McAdams, Estherville, a former resident of Dows, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Lutheran Church in Estherville with burial there. He died Tuesday [May 14, 1957] night at his home.Mr. McAdams managed the Farmers Elevator in Dows for a number of years, moving to Estherville about two years ago.
He is survived by a son, Donald McAdams, Estherville. (Mason City Globe Gazette, Mason City, IA, May 16, 1957)
Clyde L. McAdams, 66, Dies at Home
Clyde L. McAdams, who would have been 66 on May 25, died last night at 11:30 o’clock at his home 420 N. 12th St. of complications resulting from asthma and a heart ailment. He had been in poor health for the past two years.Mr. McAdams was the father of D.L. McAdams of McAdams Clothing Store here and he and his wife had moved to Estherville last January from Dows. He was a longtime resident of the Dows area before moving here where he had served for many years as manager of the Farmers Grain and Lumber Co. there. He had retired from his post because of ill health.
Mr. McAdams also farmed near Dows for a few years after his marriage and was telephone company manager there for a number of years. He was active in civic affairs in the town serving on the town council for a number of years and also was active in the Lutheran church there.
Mr. McAdams was born May 25, 1891 at Trenton, Mo. and educated in the Trenton schools. He was married on Sept.25, 1915 to Josie Bertilson of Dows.
Mr. McAdams was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his widow, his son, D.L. McAdams, a nephew whom the McAdams raised and who took their name, Julius McAdams of Dows and three brothers, George of Detroit, Dude of Omaha and Jesse of Talihina, Okla. Three brothers preceded him in death. Three grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Estherville Lutheran Church with the Rev. Theodore Mokelstad officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery. Friends may call at Sternborg Funeral Home after tomorrow noon. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 15, 1957)
Mrs. Edd Shaffer and Mr. and Mrs. Morris Shaffer went by automobile to Estherville Friday to attend the funeral of their uncle and brother-in-law, Clyde McAdams. Mr. McAdams was a former Dows resident where he was manager of the Farmers Grain Co. for a period of years. (Wright County Monitor, Clarion, Iowa, May 23, 1957)
