William Martin Rites of Gruver Wednesday
Estherville – William Demetrius Martin, 88, died at his home in Estherville on Saturday evening, May 4.

Funeral series will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Gruver Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Neal Armstrong officiating. Interment will be made in East Side Cemetery with Art Kruse, Gerald Love, Bill Ramsey, Ray Haymen, Beryl Corderman and Alfred Enerson as pallbearers. Reese-Henry Funeral Home in Estherville is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Martin was born Oct. 13, 1885 in Wheeler County, Ill., to Enos and Leah Boster Martin. He was educated in Illinois schools and married on Jan.23, 1913 to Nellie May Van Horsen in Emmetsburg.

Mr. Martin had come to Iowa in 1900. After his marriage, he farmed near Mallard for seven years and moved to Emmet County in 1920. He retired in 1957 and moved into Estherville.

Survivors include two sons, Vernon Martin, Estherville and Argel Martin, Sarasota, Fla.; four daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Ardis) Carey, Estherville, Mrs. Harold (Leah) Morgan, Sandpoint, Idaho, Mrs. Clyde (Opal) Marley, Sandpoint, Idaho, and Mrs. Edwin (Maytha) Madison, Estherville; 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. George L. Johnson, Estherville, Mrs. Bertha Van Horsen, Havelock and Mrs. Belle Winney, Grass Valley, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 6, 1974)
