R. O. Clark, Former City Clerk, Died Suddenly Today
The death of R.O. Clark of North Sixth street this morning came as a shock to the entire community. Mr. Clark had been about and was apparently in good health.This morning about four o’clock he became ill. He thought it was a little pleurisy and did not call his wife until about five o’clock. He apparently was not in a serious condition at that time. Medical aid was called a little later. Mr. Clark had a sudden heart attack and passed away at six o’clock.
Mr. Clark was well known in this city, having served as city clerk under the former city administration. He has held other offices and has in many ways been a well known citizen. He was a devout Christian and a worker in the church.
Mr. Clark was born in Ottawa, Ill., Oct. 14, 1876 and came to this city 23 years ago.
The funeral services will be held from the home Saturday at 2 o’clock and from the Presbyterian church at 2:30, the Rev. Claude Fausnaugh officiating. Interment will be made in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, August 10, 1939)
