Estherville – Memorial services for Ethel C. Lyman, 86, of Elgin, Ill., formerly of Estherville, will be held at 10 a.m. on Fri., Feb. 20, 1998, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Jack Peterson officiating. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery. She died Mon., Feb. 9, 1998 at Apostolic Christian Resthaven, in Elgin.

There will be no visitation prior to the memorial service.

She was born on September 24, 1911 at Jackson, Mich., the daughter of Lloyd and June (Bartlett) Cooper. She moved with her family to Minneapolis, Minn. after she was born. She attended school in Minneapolis and graduated from west High School in 1929. She then attended and graduated from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. She moved to Estherville to teach in the public school. On August 5, 1934, she was united in marriage to Richard Lyman in Minneapolis. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Estherville and she taught kindergarten in the Estherville Community School System for many years. She later worked as the head librarian for the Estherville Public Library. After retirement, the couple moved to San Angelo, Texas where they lived for 14 years. In 1986, they moved to Geneva, Ill. to be near their daughter. Mr. Lyman died Aug. 27, 1993.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where she was a charter member and active founder of the church.

She is survived by twin daughter and son, Mrs. Floyd (Lois) Linder of Batavia, Ill.; Lee Lyman of Sand Point, Ind.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Gary (Mary June) Beck.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 19, 1998)
