Christ Leithe Dies at Britt
Christ Andrew Leithe, son of Andrew and Anna Leithe was born March 2, 1881 at Bergen, Norway. His education was received at Bergen. When 17 years of age he emigrated to America coming to Buffalo Center where he followed the occupation of a tiler and later farming.On August 20, 1925 he was united in marriage to Miss Clara Stokkeboe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Stokkeboe of Elmore, Minn.
The couple established their home on a farm near Rake where they resided for many years. Blessing the home were two daughters, Arlene and Clarine. The family attended the Lutheran Church.
In 1940 they retired from the farm. In 1958 Mr. Leithe moved to Woden. For the past three years he has been in failing health. On Thursday he was admitted to the Hancock Memorial Hospital in Britt, and early Saturday [June 10, 1961] morning quietly slipped away. He had suffered from pneumonia and complications.
He is survived by his wife; the children, Mrs. Ailt (Arlene) Burma, Woden; Mrs. Vernon (Clarine) Leeck, Spring Green, Wis., and 4 grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters, Lars at Saskatoon, Canada; Nels, Sophia and Anna in Bergen, Norway. He had attained the age of 80 years, 3 months and 8 days.
Services were held on Tuesday at 1:30 at St. John Lutheran Church at Woden, preceded by a Prayer Service at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ailt Burma.
The remains were taken to the Burma residence Tuesday morning from the Boughlon Funeral Home, Britt, where he had laid in state. The Rev. John H. Jocklin was in charge of the service. Interment was in the East Lawn cemetery at Estherville. (Rake Register, Thompson, IA, June 15, 1961)
