Mrs. C.E. Nourse received word Tuesday morning announcing the death of her mother, Mrs. E.H. Gilbert who died Monday at her home in Lake Preston, South Dakota, after undergoing a surgical operation for some throat ailment. Mrs. Gilbert lived for many years near the state line north of Estherville and has many friends to mourn her untimely death. She leaves a husband, a daughter, Mrs. Nourse of this city and a son, G. Gilbert of Wallingford. (Emmet County Republican, Estherville, IA, May 4, 1899)
