Estherville-Funeral services for Paul Laidig, 94, of Estherville will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18 at the Wallingford Lutheran Church in Wallingford with Pastor Jack Torgersen officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Cemetery in Estherville. He died on Feb. 15 at Rosewood Manor in Estherville.Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today at the henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
He was born on October 31, 1905 in Ringsted the son of Frank and Mary (Bogh) Laidig.
He attended country school in rural Emmet County and worked for farmers in Emmet County for a number of years.
On March 14, 1934 he was united in marriage to Erma Jurries in Estherville. He began farming on his own land in 1935 southeast of Estherville. He farmed on the same farm until 1974 when he retired and moved into Estherville.
He was a member of the Wallingford Lutheran Church.
He is survived by two sons, Ervin Laidig of Estherville and Richard Laidig of Murfreesboro, Tenn., four daughters, Darlene Davis of Des Moines, Deloris Eisenbacher of Estherville, Gwen Butz and husband Dave of Cedar Rapids and Sandy Laidig of Des Moines; one daughter-in-law, Shirley Laidig of Estherville; 24 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and one sister, Edith Huntley of Dolliver.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma; three sons; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, his parents; three brothers and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February, 2000)
