Estherville – Services for Sophia Kirk, 92, of Estherville will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Glenn Bohmer officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery. She died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1993 at Good Samaritan Center.

Friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Thursday.

She was born Feb. 5, 1901 at Estherville, the daughter of Albert and Bertha (Zerke) Heiman. She attended Estherville School. Prior to her marriage she was a bookkeeper for a local baker. On April 4, 1927 she married James R. Kirk Sr. at Estherville. After marriage the couple owned and operated a general store and trucking business in Olaf, Iowa. In 1934 they moved back to Estherville where they farmed north of town. She has been a resident at the Good Samaritan Center since May of 1979. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where she had been church organist, taught Sunday School and was past president of the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the birthday club and the EEE Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. David (Rosabelle) Hermann, Chan Hassen, Minn.; a son, James Kirk Jr. and wife Lavonne of Estherville; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Freda Heiman, Estherville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Kirk Sr., who died March 19, 1976; parents; three brothers and two great-grandchildren. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 16, 1993)
