Old Mr. Gilbertson of Swan Lake township was buried Monday. He had lived to the good old age of 84 years, had lived here for over 20 years. He was a quiet man, much respected by his neighbors. He leaves a wife and five children. All sympathize with the bereaved ones and especially the wife who will miss him most. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, November 27, 1902)
An Old Settler Dies
Guturm Gutormson [Guttorm Guttormson] died at his home two miles west of Maple Hill last Friday [November 21, 1902] night. Mr. Gutormson was one of the old settlers of that county having lived here nearly forty years. He has always made his home since coming to this county on the farm where he died. He was eighty-eight years of age and leaves three boys and two daughters, all living in Emmet county except Mrs. Mason of Algona. The sons, Ole, Gilbert and Olous Gilbertson are prosperous farmers of this county. The other daughter, Mrs. John Hanson lives near Maple Hill. Funeral services were held Monday.
