John Quastad, 68 Dies; Rites to Be Tuesday
John Quastad, 68, died early Saturday [March 1, 1969] morning at his home in the Gruver area.

He was born Feb. 18, 1901, near Estherville, the son of Ole O. and Martha Quastad. He received his education in rural Emmet County schools and farmed in the county all his life.

On Feb. 19, 1925, he married Belle Hanson at Wallingford.

Mr. Quastad served as Swan Lake township clerk for 42 years during which time he also was sexton of the Swan Lake Cemetery. He was a director of the rural school in his district.

He served on building committees for the Gruver school house and Immanuel Lutheran Church south of Gruver, of which he was a member.

Surviving are his wife, Belle, two sons, Donald and Omer of rural Estherville; four daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Donna) Herum of Wallingford, Mrs. Gene (Joan) O’Brien and Mrs. Lawrence (Janet) Doolen of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. David (Marlys) Landmesser of Norco, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. A.K. (Inger) Olson of Estherville and Mrs. Ann Ihlan of Mesa, Ariz.; one brother, Adolph Quastad of Armstrong; and 19 grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Mrs. William Reid. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 3, 1969)
