Death Takes Clarence B. Sorum
Clarence B. Sorum, 78, lifetime resident of Emmet County, died Sunday about 9:35 a.m. at Holy Family Hospital, his death attributed to complications of advanced age.

He was born Feb. 21, 1889, in Swan Lake Township, the son of Brady and Christina Sorum and received his education in the Emmet county schools.

December 30, 1912 he married to Rubina Elnora Amundson at the home of her parents in Swan Lake. They farmed for many years in that area and later moved to Estherville. Mrs. Sorum died July 1, 1962.

He was later married on Sept. 17, 1963, to Retta Lavina Taylor at Windom, Minn. They made their home at 909 3rd Ave. N., Estherville.

Mr. Sorum was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, south of Gruver. He was trustee in Swan Lake Township for many years.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Richard A. (Catherine) Holl of Estherville; four grandchidren, Mrs. Richard (Juanita) Mitcho of Minneapolis, Linda and Janice Holl of Fremont, Neb., and Susan at home; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Herman and Edwin of Estherville; three step children, Mrs. Leslie (Vivian) Samp of Ottawa, Illinois; Orval Taylor of Estherville, and Evan of McCall, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, an infant son, his parents, one brother, Ben, and one sister, Mrs. Tillie Paulson.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in Immanuel Lutheran Church. Rev. Rueben Evanson officiating. Burial will be in Swan Lake Cemetery. Friends may call at the Fuhrman Funeral Home all day Wednesday and until time of family services that will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. After the service the body will be taken to the church to lie in state. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 7, 1967)
