A.M. Hansen Dies at 67
Arthur Marinus Hansen, 67, resident of Emmet County for 45 years, died yesterday at 7 p.m. in Holy Family Hospital.

Immediate cause of his death was a stroke but Mr. Hansen had suffered from rheumatoid arthritis for the past 25 years.

For the first 10 years after he was stricken with arthritis Mr. Hansen got about with crutches and a wheel chair but for the past 15 years he had been bedridden, first at his farm home near Maple Hill, then at the Good Samaritan Home and for the past two weeks at Holy Family Hospital. He had been a patient at the hospital at various times during his illness.

Born July 20, 1897, in Omaha, Neb., he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hansen and moved with them as a child to a farm near Fenton. He received his education in the Fenton schools. He came to Emmet County March 1, 1919.

He was married Jan. 27, 1922 to Alma Berven at Wallingford. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Hansen farmed near Maple Hill, paid to have their land farmed for several years after Mr. Hansen was forced to quit because of his health. They moved to Estherville several years ago.

Mr. Hansen was Swan Lake Township assessor for four years and before he became ill, had served as Sunday School superintendent of the Immanuel Lutheran Church south of Gruver.

He is survived by his widow; one son, Lloyd of Estherville; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Watts of Mason City, and eight grandchildren.

A sister, Mrs. Fred (Amanda) Henriksen of Ringsted and three brothers, Thorvald of Ringsted, Adolph of Fenton, and Gilbert of Waterloo, also survive.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother and one sister.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Fuhrman Funeral Home and at 2 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Rev. Benjamin Coltvet officiating. Burial will be in Swan Lake cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home all day Wednesday and until time of the services Thursday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 12, 1965)
