Gruver – Funeral services for Vera Lucile Knudson, 96, of Gruver will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11 at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church south of Gruver with Pastor Gregg Waylander officiating. Interment will be held at Swan Lake Cemetery in rural Gruver. She died on Thursday Nov. 7, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

Vera was born on Feb. 17, 1906 in Tintah, Minn., the daughter of Allen and Fannie (Collins) Boyington. She received her education in rural country schools in Minnesota and Emmet County.

On Feb. 25, 1925, Lucile was united in marriage to Gust Knudson in Wallingford, After their marriage the couple made their home in the Gruver area where Gust was engaged in farming.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, reading, playing the piano and studying her Bible. Lucile also loved the visits from her family Gust died October 21, 1932.

Lucile was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church south of Gruver.

Lucile is survived by six children, Evelyn Schwennecker and her husband, Ronald of Spirit Lake; Lorabelle Hempstead and her husband, Virgil of Estherville; Harold Knudson and his wife, Janet of Estherville; Blanche Mitchell and her husband, Robert of Grapevine, Texas; Anita West and her husband, Larry of Mesa, Ariz.; Dale Knudson and his wife, Wanda of Visalia, Calif.; thirteen grandchildren, Monty Hempstead and his wife, Barb; Gayle Waylander and her husband, Gregg; Becky Ostheimer and her husband, David; Kim Swartz and her husband, Kevin; Rick Knudson; Barbara Cronk and her husband, David; Jeannine Welshrod and her husband, Randy; Angela Thornton and her husband, John; Lori Mesa and her husband, Bernie; Scott West; Jason West; Curtis Knudson; Debra Chavez and her husband, Bobby; one sister, Leota Carter of Clarion and many nieces and nephews.

She has been preceded in death by her husband; one granddaughter; parents; three brothers and four sisters. (Estherville Daily News Estherville, IA, November 8, 2002)
