Ringsted Youth Dies in Tractor Accident
Randal [Randall] Lee Berven, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Berven of rural Ringsted, died when pinned beneath a tractor about 1:45 p.m. Sept. 8.

Investigating officers, Marvin Loebach, state trooper, and Lawrence Dickinson, Emmet County deputy sheriff, reported that Randal Berven had been driving a tractor out of the east entrance to Ingham Lake conservation area and turned south on the gravel road. In turning he apparently had lost control of the tractor which had started to roll, pinning him underneath.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, south of Gruver, with the Rev. P.L. Mork officiating. Interment will be in Swan Lake Cemetery.

Randal was born Aug. 23, 1957 in Estherville and attended Graettinger schools where he was in 11th grade. He was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and of Luther League and also a member of Jack Creek Township 4H Club.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Berven; one sister, Lori, 14; one brother, Daniel, 12; and his grandmother, Mrs. George Berven, Estherville.

Friends may call at Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville, until noon Tuesday when the body will be taken to the church. Pallbearers will be Dwight Schmitt, David Cox, Lowell Jacobson, Rodney Prather, Terry Christensen and Glenn Blinkman. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 10, 1973)
