F. Johnson, Estherville, Dies at 73
Services for Floyd Alfred Johnson, 73, Estherville, will be Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Reese-Henry Chapel, Estherville with Rev. Denzil Neumann officiating.Johnson died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday [October 2, 1968] at the Veteran’s Hospital, Sioux Falls.
Mr. Johnson had been hospitalized for cancer treatment for seven months of the past year and had been in failing health for the past 13 months.
He was born July 30, 1895, at Allison, to Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Johnson. He was educated in Allison and Waterloo schools.
Mr. Johnson was married Sept. 29, 1917, to Leila Cone at Des Moines. The couple lived for a time at Waterloo following their marriage. Later they made their home in Lake Park and in 1923 they moved to Estherville.
He was employed by the Bell Telephone Company from 1920 until his retirement in 1955. Johnson was a veteran of WWI and a 50-year member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Estherville.
Survivors include his wife, Leila, Estherville; one son, Rev. Gerald Johnson, Joliet, Ill., and two grandchildren,.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Burial will be in East Side Cemetery. Friends may call at the Reese-Henry Funeral Home from 10 a.m. Friday until time of service Saturday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 3, 1968)
