Arthur B. Irwin Dies; Rites to be Thursday
Arthur Irwin, 48, cashier of the Iowa Trust and Savings Bank, died yesterday at 4:40 p.m. at Holy Family hospital. He had been a patient at St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City for several weeks and was brought here to the hospital by ambulance Friday.

He had been hospitalized at Rochester at various times during the past two years.

Mr. Irwin was an active community worker, having served as treasurer of the Heart Fund, secretary of the Elks Lodge, a member of the Estherville City Council, secretary and director of the Estherville Golf and Country Club, member of the Presbyterian church, the Kiwanis Club, a Mason, member of the White Shrine, American Legion, and assisted with the hospital drive and other activities.

Arthur Bigelow Irwin was born Jan. 25, 1916, at Rudyard, Mich., the son of Mr. and Mrs. William S. Irwin. He received his early schooling at Detroit, and after moving to Estherville with his parents, when 10 years old, he attended the Estherville schools.

He was a World War II veteran and served in the European theater, After return from service, he farmed with his father west of Estherville.

He began work at the Iowa Trust and Savings Bank 16 years ago.

Mr. Irwin was married Feb. 5, 1951, in St. Paul to Ruth Hackett of Estherville.

He is survived by his widow; four children, Diane, 12, Susan, 10, John, 9, and David 7; his mother, Mrs. William Irwin, who makes her home with his only brother, Lt. Col. Robert Irwin, Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs. Omer Nau of Colorado Springs, Colo.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Presbyterian church, the Rev. H. Allen Wirtz officiating.

Family services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in East Side cemetery with Masonic graveside rites.

Friends may call at Fuhrman funeral home after 7 p.m. today, until noon Thursday, when the body will be taken to the church.

Pallbearers are Lester Ramsey, Frank Ramsey, James Simon, Hans Hansen, Robert M. Hansen and Harold Peterson.

Masons are asked to meet at the Masonic Temple Thursday at 1 p.m. to attend the funeral.

City officials will attend the funeral in a body.

Those planning to attend are asked to meet at City Hall and be ready to leave at 1:30 p.m., on half hour before the time of the final rites. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 19, 1965)
