Spirit Lake – Clyde V. (Chap) Iler, 73, formerly of Estherville, died Monday, June 3, 1991 at McKennon Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. Services were held Friday at United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake with the Rev. John Oran and Gene Krueger officiating. Interment was in East Side Cemetery, Estherville with military rites by the Estherville American Legion Post 91 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3388.

He was born November 2, 1917 at Laurel, Neb. the son of Clyde and Dessie (Sutherland) Iler, Jr. and was a graduate of Laurel High School. On Sept. 13, 1938 he married Dorthey Littrell of Maple Grove, Neb. at Lincoln. The family lived in Storm Lake before moving to Estherville where he was employed as a butcher. They moved to Spirit Lake in 1990. He was a member of the United Methodist Church; Estherville VFW Post and North Star Lodge 7 AF AM Masons. He was a veteran of World War Two having served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Spirit Lake; two daughters: Mrs. Barbara Gugie, Logan and Mrs. Alana Bringle, Spirit Lake; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 8, 1991)
