NED ALVIN BROWN
Ned Brown, 65, a well known citizen of Graettinger, passed away at his home in this city May 13, 1950. The immediate cause of his death was perhaps heart failure as he passed away in his sleep. He had been in failing health since last fall and was a patient on occasions at Iowa University hospital. He returned home from the hospital ten days before his death. A brother from Pueblo who had been visiting him, returned home, Tuesday as Mr. Brown was apparently recovering nicely and was on the road to recovery.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Martin Funeral Home, Emmetsburg. Rev. Arthur Rasmussen, pastor of the Methodist church, Graettinger, officiated. Burial was in the Rush Lake cemetery near Curlew. Many neighbors and friends from Graettinger and Curlew were in attendance at the funeral.

Pallbearers were Amos Mammen, Graettinger; Arthur Wilcox, Joseph Hand, Wm. Hand and Frank Staver, Emmetsburg; and Bert King, Curlew.

Ned Alvin Brown was born at Curlew, Iowa, April 20, 1885. He was 65 years of age last April.

The early part of his life was spent with his parents in the vicinity of Curlew, where he received his education.

On March 1, 1909, he was united in marriage to Maude S. Patterson, at Curlew. To this union one daughter was born. The couple made their home on a farm near Curlew for 16 years, and then moved to a farm near Emmetsburg, where they resided for 15 years. They then moved to Graettinger where they made their home for the past nine years. Mr. Brown worked at various occupations. He was a lover of flowers, and gardening was his hobby.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maude Brown; one daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Hansen, of Wallingford; one brother, Ben Brown, of Pueblo, Colorado; and many other relatives.

Mr. Brown was known by many people in Graettinger and was liked by all his acquaintances. He was a quiet gentleman and attended strictly to his own affairs. He was a loving and devoted husband and parent, a real friend and a kind and obliging neighbor. He will be missed by all who knew him as well as by his wife and daughter and other relatives.

The Times extends sympathy to Mrs. Brown and to the daughter and the brother in their sorrow. (Graettinger Times, Graettinger, IA, May 18, 1950)
