Melba (Foster) Hoien, the daughter of Tom and Vera (Dameron) Foster was born May 18, 1921 in Galesburg, Illinois. She passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 89.

She received her education in the Estherville schools, graduating from Estherville High School in 1939.

On April 24, 1942, she was united to Bruce Hoien in Estherville. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Estherville. Bruce passed away January 29, 1994. Melba enjoyed volunteering and doing crafts.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Estherville.

Left to cherish Melba's memory are her children, Nancy Beck of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Kathy Sawatzky and her husband, Don of Janesville, Wisconsin; Patricia Dalen and her husband, Duane of Oreana, Illinois; Jim Hoien and his wife, Christine of Lees Summit, Missouri; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Preceding Melba in death were her parents; son, Steven; three brothers, Jack, Rodney and Bob and grandson, Andrew. (MC)
